My current favorite ways to guide language learning with AI tools:

1. Making learning materials (e.g. create a vocab list with Chinese word-Pinyin-English meaning): Google Doc with Built-in Gemini

2. Have a real-time conversation in Mandarin: Copilot audio (Sorry ChatGPT audio sounds like a near-native Mandarin speaker who was born and grew up in the U.S., to me. I do enjoy chatting with it in Korean or Spanish:))

3. Make a fun and short story based on a set of target words/phrases: Claudi (Its Chinese is just so much more sophisticated and culturally relevant, instead of translations from English training model)

4. Create a fun song based on some target words/phrases: Suno

5. Co-create stories or any kinds of image-related activities (e.g. generating a unrealistic scene that my students came up: a Tang dynasty poet Libai is eating many buns in ice castles in Haerbin/李白在哈尔滨冰城吃很多包子): Dall E, Canva

6. Students play around target words themselves: Quizlet Q-chat

7. Create leveled texts along with reading comprehension questions and writing prompts: Diffit

I am still exploring more AI tools for language learning and teaching. What are your favorites?
