I’m glad I decided to attend Seattle’s 4th Chinese Expulsion Remembrance Rally this year! I felt very empowered by the resilience and unity of our community, a legacy that dates back to the contributions and struggles of Chinese pioneers in Washington from the 1860s. Washington Territorial legislation excluded the Chinese from the right to vote in 1853, even before the first Chinese settler settled in the region. In 2024, I felt very honored and grateful to march alongside 4 Chinese American City Council Members. It reminds us of how far we’ve come, and how much more work we need to do.
